Glenn D'Cruz Past President Dundas toastmasters Club 24/07/2004
Last year we were honoured by the visit of Toastmaster John Mascarenhas ATM-G to the Dundas Toastmasters Club. In recent months John has been conducting a number of speech-craft courses for the youth of St Kieran's Church.
In addition John Mascarenhas and Anne Rafferty are sponsors to the newly created St Kieran's Toastmasters Club. District 70 Governor Reg Stewart DTM presenting the club banner to John Mascarenhas.
The Charter dinner was held on 23rd July 2004 and I took the opportunity to visit a new club and also reciprocate John's kind gesture.
Approximately 70 Toastmasters and visitors were treated to a fine evening of charter dinner acknowledgements, speeches and even some fine Indian music and dance.
The humble speech of St Kieran's Church youth worker Kiliti Na'ati Models for Transforming Lives reminded me of the selfless commitment of many experienced Toastmasters to the newer Toastmasters and to the community in general. I also came away with a fine message from St Kieran's Church parish priest Fr Peter Wienecke - " When good things happen then people of good will rejoice" Seventy of us did that night.
I took the opportunity to invite them to a future Dundas Toastmasters club meeting. Details of St Kieran's Toastmasters club can be obtained from their website www.sktm.org or from the Vice President of membership Brian Prior on 0412255284.
